Cubor by Jan Rigerl FREE

  Cubor- screenshot thumbnail        Cubor- screenshot
Cubor comes from Jan Rigerl.  The object is to get the colored cubes to their respective targets.
   Cubor- screenshot       Cubor- screenshot
All of the features in this game have been done before. But that's okay. This a very solid game.
The features:
1. Rolling Cubes
2. Cubes are sometimes connected to others.
3. A specific face must sometimes land on the target.

There are 30 levels and they go pretty fast.  There are 'daily' levels.  I tried yesterday's and they were too easy.

Tiles² by Andrew Abosh FREE

Tiles² comes from Andrew Abosh. The object is to quickly memorize where the numbers are and then tap their locations.

It's a fun game. My only criticism is that the numbers always go down. The 1 tile would never be at the bottom.
Andrew's description:
Tiles² is a memory game.

You have three (3) seconds to memorize a numbered sequence of tiles.
When ready, tap the tiles in the correct order to complete a round.
The difficulty will increase as the rounds progress.

Unicycle Hero by Unept FREE

Unicycle Hero has been classified by the Apple Itunes  People under 'New Games We Love.' It's a dexterity puzzle where the object is to get Your Man to throw a projectile as far as possible.

First, Your Man must rock forward and back and get to the line with good speed & momentum.

This game is terrible.  The graphics are 'old school'. I did the first 10 tutorial levels and then a couple of the regular levels. It's just annoying.

However, according to the leaderboard, this game has become hugely popular.

A Hollow Doorway by Kenny Sun FREE

Kenny Sun has made some interesting games recently.  A Hollow Doorway is a dexterity game. The object is to rotate the center door so that it aligns with the next doorway as it shrinks down in size.  Keep doing this over and over.

The graphics are excellent.

Even better: in the control panel, the sensitivity of your thumb movement can be adjusted.  Calibrating this to your needs is essential.

I felt very proud when I solved all of the levels. Then I realized that those 100 doorways was just level 1.  I've since done 4 levels and am quite proud.  Those other guys on the leaderboard who've done 60 & 70 levels? They're like gods.

Kenny must be a philosopher/poet.  His description:
A Hollow Doorway is a meditation on the meaningless. A love letter to nothingness and an introspective look at the heart of purposeless infinity. Desperately swipe and spin your doorway in a futile attempt to match the rotation of rapidly approaching concentric walls as sweat pours from your armpits and your soul pours into your trembling thumb. It's fun!

Kenny Sun also made YANKAI'S PEAK.

Scale Sticks - Hardest Game! by Jan Brelje FREE

Scale Sticks - Hardest Game!  comes from Jan Brelje.  It's a dexterity game.  The object is to tap the bar that is shrinking as fast as possible and then move on to the next bar that is shrinking.   The game ends when any single bar gets to zero.

Interesting idea. I've only played it a few times.  Too fast for me.  Also, the bars should be separated more.

Only 3 Words by Blue Boat FREE

Only 3 Words is described as 'one of the best word games for kids.'  Before I saw that, I thought to myself, hey this is really good. I'm semi embarrassed.  I like this game. In particular, I like the wording of the clues.

For example: 'Low digit' was not 'one' or 'two'. The answer was 'toe.'

7 Little Words is similar, but tougher.

The Room by Fireproof Games $.99

  The Room- screenshot thumbnail
The folks at Fireproof Games recently came out with their fourth game The Room: Old Sins.  I figured it was high time that I go back and finish playing their first game The Room.
   The Room- screenshot
A lot of my mechanical puzzle friends loved this game because it's essentially a secret opening box with a million components.
   The Room- screenshot
This past week I restarted the game from the beginning and finished it in about 3-4 hours spread over 3 days. Good quality entertainment for only $.99!
   The Room- screenshot
The art work is fantastic.
   The Room- screenshot
The puzzles themselves were okay. But not outstanding. When a puzzle solution gets repeated later on - that's a big no-no for this type of game.  For example: certain keys have to be manipulated/spun to match a key slot. That was done 3 times.  Another: 2 dials had to be spun at the same time. This puzzle concept was later repeated. Yet another example: spinning 5 dials to spell out a specific word that was revealed only by using the special goggles.
   The Room- screenshot
The individual puzzles all had to be solved in a specific sequence. This made the experience more like a movie. But without a plot.

There are 7 letters from your long lost uncle or cousin. All of them talked about his finding some mystical power. None had any relevance to the actual puzzles.

I'm glad I finally played this game because everybody's been raving about it for so long. But I wasn't so enthralled that I'm going to play their 3 other games right away. But I will play them.

Check out Mystery Lighthouse. It's the same idea, though much simpler. The artwork is totally different and much brighter. It also has a certain charm to it that The Room is missing.

Sweet Drmzzz by Bart Bonte $.99

iPhone Screenshot 1
All of Bart Bonte's games are fun.  Sweet Drmzzz came out in 2014 but was updated last year.
iPhone Screenshot 2
50 puzzles include a little bit of everything.  Rockets have to be steered to collect the yellow stars while avoiding the red stars and red rockets.
iPhone Screenshot 3
Sand has to be funneled to containers.  (Zen Sand from 2013 is only this type of puzzle and also very good.) Very interesting: in Bart's game, the sand can flow upward and downward.
iPhone Screenshot 4
I think I've played Bart's other games for free. So I was happy to shoot him a buck.

At the moment I'm stuck on level 26.

There's a lot of charm to these puzzles.

Other Bart Puzzles:
Factory Balls - excellent
Boo! - a mini sequel to Factory Balls
Blocky XMAS - fun and at times hard

PuzzleNum by Lingyu Zhong FREE

iPhone Screenshot 2  iPhone Screenshot 3
PuzzleNum  comes from Lingyu Zhong. It's a math maze game. All the instructions are in Chinese, but it's easy to figure out.

The blue dot is Your Man. The goal is to get Your Man to the star.  Passing over a red square subtracts that number and Your Man must be at least 1 to get to the goal.

Not shown in the images:
White Squares with a red boarder: passing over this square will reduce all the other red squares by that number.

Orange Squares: these are =, <, or >  with a specific number.

There are 60 regular levels and at the moment I've done about 40 of them.  There are 20 (I think) advanced levels and I've done just 2 of them.

These puzzles are designed with great 'aha' moments.  This game is a little gem.

7 Little Words by Blue Ox Family Games, Inc. FREE

I reviewed 7 Little Words way back in 2011.  For some reason it was listed as a new game. Oh well.

There are 5000 puzzles!  I've done about 50 of them. The first 20 were too easy. I've been struggling on the last 10.

Pop Color Puzzle - Smash Block by Kui Tan FREE

Pop Color Puzzle - Smash Block comes from Kui Tan.  The object is to place the squares in the grid so that the outside edges match and then explode. The puzzle is solved when all the outer & inner rectangles are gone.

Definitely an interesting game.  I'm not sure if the scoring has a chain-reaction.  There are 25 levels. I've done about 14. They get complicated & clever.

There's an infinite mode where the object is to get a high score.  This mode is okay, however, it never ends.  There should be a much smaller grid for this.

Description from the App Store:
***Here come the most challenging color game: Pop Color Puzzle***
With 25 stages of blocks as well as various free modes, you will definitely enjoy a colorful game jouney playing with this puzzle game. It's logical, predictable, beautiful and also it's super fun. It's more than a crush game, you can predict the score you can get but you need to think more logically and deeply to reach a higher point. The Infinity mode gives you smooth flow to deliminate the blocks. While in the Master scene, you need stratagy, even complicated stratagies to organize a serial of blocks. Only because it's one shoot, you only have once chance to make it as perfect as you can.

One more, one more block! You will always say this to yourself when you play this game. Sometimes you are so close to it and you just need a little help. Don't worry, call a Bomb to help if you stuck. The bomb has no magic, it just clears any blocks you choose and give you a chance to continue.

How to play:
1. Place color blocks next to one another to match colors and make combos.
2. Once a color of the block is removed the next color layer is active setting off a chain reaction.
3. Place all the blocks correctly to eliminate all your pieces and get the highest score possible.
4. Use a tip or bomb smartly when you meet a stuck.

*The more blocks cleared in one move, the higher bonus you will get!
*Try to finish each puzzle with "Perfect", that means try to get the highest points as you can.
*Don't forget to share a pictures to your friends when you make a break. Ask them to challenge you!

Come on and play Pop Color Puzzle, burn you brain!

It's Full of Sparks by Noodlecake Studios FREE

The App Store Officials deemed It's Full of Sparks  as one of their 'New Games We Love.' It's an action/timing puzzle app game. It's extremely popular and clever.
The object is to get Your Man, the firecracker, to dive into the swimming pool before the lit fuse explodes.

In the beginning, Your Man discovers a pair of red sunglasses.  When he puts them on, he can see & cross red bridges and interact with other red objects.

This is a lot like Monument Valley. But there's a time limit which I don't like.

red (game) by Bart Bonte FREE

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2
red (game) is Bart Bonte's latest puzzle app.  All of his games are fun.
iPhone Screenshot 3  iPhone Screenshot 4
red (game) picks up where Yellow (game) left off. See link below. Each screen offers a different puzzle.

There are 50 levels and a hint for each - but you have to watch an ad.  I solved all the levels over 2 days.  I used about 4 hints.

Other Bart Puzzles:
Factory Balls - excellent
Boo! - a mini sequel to Factory Balls
Blocky XMAS - fun and at times hard

Chessumo by Murray LLC FREE

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2
Chessumo comes from Murray LLC. It's a point scoring puzzle game.  All pieces can attack any other piece.  Points are scored by pushing pieces off the board, just like in sumo wrestling.
iPhone Screenshot 3  iPhone Screenshot 4
Pushing 1 piece gains 1 point.
Pushing 2 pieces gains 5 points.
3 pieces nets 14 points.

After your piece makes a move, it is dead and can no longer move.  Unless, another piece pushes it within the grid, but not off the board.

It took me more time than I care to admit, that I figured these rules out.

At first, I did not like this game. Then I saw a monster score on the Leaderboard and tinkered more.

Chessumo definitely has an element of luck. Bad luck often comes when pawns and bishops appear.  However, this is a very solid game.  At the moment, my high score is over 500.

Other chess-like puzzles that I've blogged about:
Solitaire Chess - my favorite from this list
Pirate Ring
Board: Chess Puzzle
Blip Blurp
Knight Trade
Mate in 3? Ok!
Chess Puzzle of the Day
Chess Free
Ruby Capture
Blind Knights
Chess Light - very good
No More Kings

13 Balls by Bimza LLC FREE

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 3
13 Balls comes from Bimza LLC.  It's a dexterity puzzle app game.  The object is to drop balls from the top and watch them bounce around the bumpers. Kind of like Pachinko.

The number of dots in each bumper indicate how many times it must be tapped.

This game is hard! But it's also surprisingly fun.  I got to level 10 and gave up before the addiction set in.

Tomorrow's game is a winner.

Logic Dots 2 by Ayopa Games LLC FREE

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2
Logic Dots 2 comes from Ayopa Games LLC.  The object is to place the dots in the grid to satisfy the number of dots specified for each row & column.  At the same time, the dots must form clusters that match the ones at the top of the screen.  See image #2 for an example.
iPhone Screenshot 3  iPhone Screenshot 5
The App Store Gods highlighted this in their New Games We Love.  I do not love this game. Nevertheless, I've done over 100 levels. They're fast. But I must move on to something more worthy.

PixelMaze by Juhapekka Piiroinen FREE

iPhone Screenshot 1   iPhone Screenshot 2
PixelMaze comes from Juhapekka Piiroinen. The object is to collect all the gems and get to the final checkerboard. It's a maze, but it's also a bit of a dexterity/time puzzle game.

There's a sokoban element in some levels.

Level 14 had me stumped.  I emailed JP for a hint. (Then I realized that I hadn't read the full description on the App Store!)  Subsequent to JP getting back to me, I realized there was a genuine problem.  He fixed it and the App Store people approved it within 48 hours.

There are 37 levels altogether. I definitely like that.  I've done about 19 levels.

There's an infinity mode where most of the grid is hidden. As Your Man travels, the immediate are lights up. This element was programmed very well.  Overall, this is fun.

My brother ate my pudding - escape room by hap Inc. FREE

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2
My brother ate my pudding - escape room comes from hap Inc. It's not really a room escape, but sort of.
iPhone Screenshot 3
There are 20 levels and they go pretty fast. I needed about 25 minutes to do it all. And I did use a hint.
The graphics are not great, but that's okay.  Some of the solutions are funny.  Definitely play this game for the last level!
